In the aftermath of WWII the Allied Rifle Commission met in the hopes of producing a single rifle and cartridge that would serve all the member nations of the newly formed NATO. The product of this comission was the Belgian FAL rifle, in the UK the English adopted the FAL chamnbered in the American 7.62 NATO round, resulting in the L1A1 battle rifle. With an effective range of 800 meters and a muzzle velocity of 2700 FPS the L1A1 was a force to be reckoned with on the battle field. For thirty years the L1A1 was seen in hot spots the world over. From the hands of the Rhodesian Light infantry in the Rhodesian Bush Wars to Australian and New Zealand forces during the Vietnam war, the L1A1 lived up to the FALs reputation as the right arm of the free world.
